Now that everyone has headed back to school and the backpacks and lunchboxes are fresh and full again, it’s time to focus on what our kids need for a healthy and productive year ahead. After 18 months of stress and uncertainty from a pandemic that is still ongoing, kids need to be fully supported. How do we do this? By having their spines functioning optimally in order to have the best days at school.
After a summer of tumbling and playing outside, we can always improve posture and help correct any pelvic imbalances that often occur with playground and outdoor fun. Returning to sitting inside for prolonged amounts of time also takes a toll on young spines and it is important to make sure the joints are flexible and agile, while moving well through their full range of motion.
Spending time in front of a screen while sitting puts a lot of strain on the eyes, head and neck, as well as compression on the lower back. Excess weight in a backpack can contribute to mid-spine tension and poor posture. A forward positioned head and rolled shoulders compensate in order to balance the demanding, heavy load placed on spines that are still growing.
With the amount of technological devices that students use, it is imperative to keep the spine in optimal positioning so that the brain can send the proper signals to the muscles, joints and organs.
Parents often ask me, can my kids get adjusted too? The answer is Yes! And the great thing is that young people often respond really well to care, because they are already so resilient, and may simply need a gentle boost to get back on track to their ultimate health and well-being.
Now is the perfect time to help your kids be in good alignment by getting them assessed and adjusted by a chiropractor. This sets the stage for good posture throughout the school year ahead.
When your kids' bodies are moving well, they are happy, pleasant, calm, feeling good and ready to learn. They are also better able to face whatever challenges or opportunities that come their way!
Happy spines make kids smile, naturally. 😊
Take time to be proactive and get well-adjusted with your kids. It will boost your family’s strength, health and happiness as we move through these ever-changing times.
